My Gallery

I have a fine arts background and work mainly in paint, inks and collage. My larger pieces incorporate dyes and paint sticks on fabric for bigger venues. I am inspired by the human figure and by natural forms in creation, particularly how these can reveal something fresh about who God is when we know how to really see. 
This selection gives an overview of the breadth of my work over the past 10 years. The paintings reflect a varied use of media which I carefully consider with the venue in mind. Smaller images often incorporate inks and collage whereas the larger pieces, often intended for large church interiors, are done on fabrics of different textures and density using Procion dyes which are vibrant and colour fast.

From a pleine-air study, this piece uses multiple tissue paper layers to create space, with detail re-drawn after in white gouache.

The mark making in this painting tries to interpret the rambling, wild growth of late summer along with the beautiful forms of full seed heads seen from a low view point.

To create depth in this piece I used painted collage strips to evoke the faithful yet mysterious rhythm of the tide. It speaks of the overlooked pulses of creation but of the Creator’s faithful attention.

Drawn from a life model using inks and pastel on paper, this weekly discipline presents ever fresh opportunities to make marks which capture the aliveness of the human form.

Dancer, Poised

Charcoal on paper. This piece was inspired by the 2011 Royal Academy exhibition, Degas and the Ballet: Picturing Movement. The compact gesture is portrayed by tonal economy.

The Dance of the Trinity

This painting was part of a choreographed dance and dramatic reading performance. It visually explores the perichoresis of diversity and harmony in Trinitarian theology.

From the 8 part series, St Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer, Vancouver, Canada

These textile pieces using dye and oil based paint sticks were created in Vancouver, Canada and reflect a visual consideration of the prepositions contained in the prayer. They ask, “Where am I in relation to Christ in this image”? These are not static pieces but may be physically interacted with and permit an embodied response to the question.

From the series, The Big Story, Basingstoke, England

These large pieces highlight some of the central events of the Christian story and were created on heavy weave fabric in a combination of fabric dye and paint with wax resist. Each one was introduced with the corresponding sermon series and built up a big picture which told the story in its own way.
